An Oral History of DECIBEL Magazine
February 27, 2007RockCritics.com has published "An Oral History of Decibel Magazine," penned by Steven Ward. An excerpt from the article follows:
"In my humble opinion, Decibel is the best American music magazine published today. It just so happens that Decibel covers the world of extreme metal, carrying features and interviews with bands such as NAPALM DEATH, OPETH, CANNIBAL CORPSE, and ROTTING CHRIST.
"I confess that I've never heard of more than half of the bands covered in each monthly issue. But reading Decibel makes it fun to learn all about them. Decibel's secret is this: the writers and editors put together a metal magazine that is both funny and irreverent as well as serious and authoritive on a subject that deserves both approaches. Those kind of music magazines just don't exist anywhere else.
"The magazine's cover tag line says it all: 'The New Noise.'
"Several Decibel staff members and contributing writers e-mailed answers to some questions I sent about how the magazine started, their favorite parts of Decibel, and why they love writing for the magazine so much."
